Postdoc in Space Plasma Physics (ref 2.2.1-237/22)

Post-Doctoral Position in Space Plasma Physics with focus on data analysis from instruments onboard  ESA/JAXA BepiColombo mission to Mercury

IRF leads two particle instruments, Energetic Neutrals Analyzer (ENA) and Miniature Ion Precipitation Analyzer (MIPA), onboard ESA Mercury Planetary Orbiter and JAXA Mercury Magnetospheric Orbiter of the ESA/JAXA BepiColombo mission to Mercury https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/BepiColombo

Applicants are invited for a post-doctoral position for analysis of data collected in the cruise phase, from Mercury fly-bys, and at Mercury after orbit insertion in 2025. The selected candidate will work in a successful research group, Solar System Physics and Space Technology (SSPT) at IRF, that conducts active research on the solar system developing particle instruments for planetary missions, analyzing data, and performing computer simulations.

Tasks:
The tasks include but are not limited to:
– development of software for processing, archiving, and display of data;
– science data analysis;
– calibration data analysis for instrument characterization;
– instrument science operation planning.

The work involves international collaboration with other research institutes and space organizations such as ESA and JAXA in Europe and Japan.

Qualifications:
Candidates should have completed (or expect to complete) a PhD in space physics or a related field during 2019 or later. Candidates planning to obtain their PhD degree before July 2022 may also apply for this position.
