Swedish Institute of Space Physics, Uppsala, Sweden is looking for
PhD students in space physics to studies of space plasmas
Applications are invited for PhD students to study kinetic plasma processes operating in space plasma regions of fundamental importance, such as magnetic reconnection sites, shocks, and turbulence regions. Such processes operate in most astrophysical plasma environments leading to plasma heating and production of energetic particles.
In particular, we are looking for students to study particle acceleration and plasma heating at fronts of plasma jets and at shocks. The new PhD student will work directly with state-of-the-art experimental data from the NASA multi-spacecraft Magnetospheric MultiScale (MMS) mission.
The positions are available at the Uppsala office at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF), located at the Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala, Sweden, starting at the latest in the second half of 2019 for a total duration of four years. The PhD students will belong to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University and must therefore fulfill the university requirements.

Doktorander i rymdfysik för studier av rymdplasma
Vi söker doktorander för studier av processer inom kinetisk plasmafysik som är viktiga för förståelsen av grundläggande rymdfysik. Detta inkluderar magnetisk omkoppling, chocker och områden dominerade av turbulens. Dessa processer förekommer i de flesta områden med plasma som studeras inom astrofysiken och leder till upphettning och acceleration av laddade partiklar. Speciellt söker vi doktorander som ska studera acceleration och upphettning av partiklar vid fronten av plasmastrålar och i samband med chocker.
Doktoranderna kommer att arbeta direkt med nya observationer från de fyra NASA-satelliterna i projektet MMS (MagnetosphericMultiScale).
Doktoranden/doktoranderna anställs för fyra år vid Institutet för rymdfysik, med lokaler i Ångströmlaboratoriet, Uppsala, med början senast under andra halvåret 2019.
Vad avser forskarutbildning tillhör doktoranden Institutionen för fysik och astronomi vid Uppsala universitet, och måste alltså uppfylla kraven för antagning till denna utbildning.
