Abstract.
Shocks are ubiquitous phenomena in the universe. In our Solar System, shocks form when the supersonic solar wind encounters the planetary magnetic fields. Earth´s bow shock diverts, decelerates, compresses and heats the solar wind plasma before it reaches the magnetopause. The regions upstream and downstream of the bow shock, the foreshock and magnetosheath respectively, are highly perturbed resulting in an ideal environment for the formation of transient phenomena and the growth of instabilities and waves.
