Post-doctoral position in Atmospheric Physics (ref. 2.2.1-21/23)
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position with a focus on the validation of measurements with ATLID.
Background:
The EarthCARE satellite will be launched later this year. One of the instruments on board will be a lidar, ATLID. In order to evaluate the quality of ATLID observations, data products need to be validated with concurrent ground-based measurements. IRF will contribute with lidar observations of cirrus clouds and polar stratospheric clouds.
The project will be performed at IRF in close collaboration with the Atmospheric Science team at Luleå University of Technology. It will be part of worldwide efforts to validate EarthCARE data products. Hence, the project will give opportunities to collaborate with other validation teams.
Tasks:
The tasks will include but are not limited to:
- lidar measurements
- testing and improving data inversion routines
- analysis of lidar data
- compilation of data products for validation
Qualifications:
The candidate must have completed (or expects to complete within the next months) a PhD in atmospheric science, meteorology or physics. We will primarily consider candidates with a degree obtained within the last three years. If you have an older degree and want to refer to special circumstances, such as parental leave, this should be clearly stated in your application. Experience with lidar is a merit. Familiarity with C, Fortran and Python is an advantage.
The candidate should not currently be an active postdoctoral researcher at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics.
The position is placed in Kiruna and is funded by the Swedish National Space Agency and will be for 2.5 years. Starting date is second quarter of 2023.
Equality, equal conditions and diversity are fundamental principles in our workplace which means that we consider equality aspects in our daily work and in all decision-making forums.
